Service Dogs

OES Primary Charity - Service Dogs

This is a “tail-wagging” time for our Order and all are invited to “paw-ticipate.” At the General Grand Chapter Triennial Session held in 2015, the membership formally adopted Service Dogs as its primary identifying charity and a steering committee was appointed to formulate the program. Much like Shriners are identified with Shriners Hospitals for Children, Scottish Rite are identified with Scottish Rite Learning Centers, Amaranth are identified with Diabetes, etc., the Order of the Eastern Star will become known worldwide as the organization that supports Service Dogs. This primary identifying charity is expected to gain recognition for our beautiful Order, increase membership, and involve nonmembers to support the cause. The Service Dogs program was officially launched at the last Triennial Session on November 1, 2018. This is very exciting news for our Order!

Each jurisdiction has a member serving on the General Grand Chapter Service Dogs Committee and Maryland added Service Dogs as a Standing Committee at its annual session in April 2019. We are actively raising funds for this charity in Maryland and all monies will remain in Maryland to support local service dog organizations that provide service dogs to individuals with disabilities and whose mission it is to train and place canine assistance dogs with deserving candidates.

Meet Spirit!

Spirit is the poster puppy for our signature charity, Service Dogs. He is pictured here with the official committee logo. Whenever the Order of the Eastern Star purchases a service dog, a patch bearing the logo will be provided to sew on the service dog's vest and all who see it will know of the work we do. You can be proud to be a member of the Order of the Eastern Star!
